The matter is placed before this Court on the letter received from the Court below, seeking extension of time to complete the proceedings in C.C.No.226 of 2022 on the file of the I Additional Special Court under NDPS Act, Chennai.

2. It is seen that this Court, while disposing the application for bail in respect of the petitioner/accused in Crl.O.P.No.5276 of 2023 dated 16.03.2023, had directed the trial Judge to complete the trial in C.C.No.226 of 2022 within a period of six months from the date of receipt of copy of that order. Now, the learned Special Judge, I Additional Special Court under NDPS Act, Chennai, had sent a letter in Dis No.7250 of 2023 dated 01.11.2023 sought for extension of time to complete the trial. Further, from the letter, it is seen that the delay is on account of various reasons including the delay by some of the accused.

Considering the reasons and the request made by the learned Special Judge, I Additional Special Court under NDPS Act, Chennai, this Court feels it appropriate to extend the time by six months and accordingly, it is extended by six months from today. The learned trial Judge shall endeavor to complete the trial as expeditiously as possible. 08.11.2023 Note to office:- The Special Judge, I Additional Special Court under NDPS Act, Chennai, may be apprised of the extension of time forthwith.
