O R D E R

This Criminal Original Petition has been filed by the petitioner seeking expeditious disposal of Spl.S.C. No. 76 of 2024 pending on the file of the District and Sessions Court, Mayiladuthurai, within a stipulated time.

2. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner / accused who is facing trial in Spl.S.C.No.76 of 2024, has filed the present petition seeking speedy disposal of the case, as the case pertains to the year 2021. Initially the charge sheet was filed before the Special Court, Nagapattinam in Spl.S.C.No.28 of 2022. Thereafter, upon the formation of the Special Court, Mayiladuthurai after bifurcation, the case was transferred to the Special Court, Mayiladuthurai, and is now pending as Spl.S.C.No.76 of 2024. It is further submitted that there are totally 15 witnesses, out of whom 5 witnesses have been examined so far and the remaining 10 witnesses are yet to be examined. Hence, the petitioner has filed the present petition.

3. The learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the respondent submitted that in this case LW.1 to LW.3, LW.5 and LW.6 have already been examined. The case is posted for examination of LW.4, LW.7 and LW.8. It is further submitted that LW.7 is not available in station and the case is posted for examination of witnesses on 18.03.2026. On that day, the said witnesses will be examined. For examining the remaining witnesses, the learned Additional Public Prosecutor seeks three months time to complete the trial.

4. Accordingly, this Court directs the District and Sessions Court, Mayiladuthurai to dispose of the case in Spl.S.C.No.76 of 2024 within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

5. With the above direction, this Criminal Original Petition stands disposed of.
