Writ petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, for issuance of a Writ of Mandamus, directing the 1st respondent to treat the application dated 18.05.2017 submitted by the petitioner's son under the special category of sports quota.

O R D E R

The petitioner seeks for a mandamus directing the first respondent to treat his son application dated 18.05.2017 under the special category of sports quota.

2. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and the learned Additional Government Pleader (Pondy) appearing for the respondents.

3. Admittedly, the petitioner's son has not applied under the sports quota, while making his application to the professional courses. The merit list has already been published and the counselling is going on. At this stage, the petitioner wants to consider his son under the sports quota by claiming that his son is having valid sports certificates. I https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

do not think that such request can be entertained at this stage, belatedly, that too, after the publication of the merit list and commencing of the counselling. If the petitioner's son is claiming his candidature under the sports quota, he ought to have applied under the sports quota, while making the application itself. But admittedly in this case, he has not made such claim while making the application.

4. Considering the fact that the merit list has already been published and the counselling is also going on, this Court, at this stage, is not inclined to entertain this writ petition. Accordingly, the writ petition fails and the same is dismissed. No costs.
