Respondents Prayer in both the petitions : Writ Petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for the issuance of Writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to place the proposal sent by the Bharathiar University dated 16.03.2015 before the Equivalence Committee so as to decide whether the B.Sc., Applied Science (Computer Technology) Degree awarded to the petitioners by the Bharathair University is equivalent to B.Sc., Computer Science in order to enable the petitioners to be considered for the post of Computer Instructor in Government Institutions. ORDER
With the consent of both sides, this writ petition is taken up for final disposal.
2. The petitioner passed B.Sc., Applied Science (Computer Technology) in Bharathiar University. The Bharathiar University sent a proceedings in Ref.No.BU/S3/Comp.Sci./Equi./2015, dated 16.03.2015, to the Chairman, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, seeking to consider B.Sc. Applied Science (Computer Technology) degree awarded by them be equivalent to B.Sc., Computer Science degree and to issue necessary orders in this regard. It is relevant to extract the letter dated 16.03.2015 of the Bharathiar University to the Chairman, TNPSC, as hereunder :
"With reference to the above, I am by direction, furnishing syllabi for B.Sc. Applied Science (Computer Technology) degree course offered in the affiliated colleges of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, and request to consider B.Sc., Applied Science (Computer Technology) degree awarded by the Bharathiar University be equivalent to B.Sc. Computer Science degree for the purpose of higher studies, employment, appearing for TNPSC examinations/TRB and further request to issue necessary Government Orders in this regard."
3. The Chairman, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, is also the Chairman of the Equivalence Committee and the Equivalence Committee shall decide as to the equivalence of degrees, whenever representations are received from the Universities. Since the Bharathiar University has made a reference to the TNPSC to consider and to issue orders treating B.Sc., Applied Science (Computer Technology) awarded by them be equivalent to the B.Sc., (Computer Science), the same shall be considered by the Equivalence Committee and appropriate orders thereon shall be passed within a period of eights weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. No costs.
