Respondents Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issue of Writ of Mandamus directing the first respondent to consider the representation dated 23.1.2018 and take final decision on the same to allot the Reservation Ward in Ward No.185 in Zone-14 of Greater Corporation of Chennai to the Schedule Caste People for Male Candidate.

ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble Chief Justice) This so-called public interest litigation pertains to the manner of reservation in a ward of the Greater Chennai Corporation.

2. A representation has been forwarded by the writ petitioner to, inter alia, the Corporation. The Corporation is represented and says that the reservation is done as per the 2011 census and there is a policy of rotation and alteration which is followed amongst several wards.

3. Without going into the merits of the representation made by the writ petitioner, the Corporation is directed to pass a speaking order in respect of such representation within eight weeks from today and communicate the same to the writ petitioner.

4. W.P.No.6903 of 2020 is disposed of without any order as to costs. It is made clear that the speaking order should be forwarded to the writ petitioner within eight weeks from date and the writ petitioner will be entitled to pursue the writ petitioner's remedy against such speaking order in accordance with law.
