This Writ Petition has been filed in the nature of a Mandamus, seeking a direction against the respondents to pay interest for the belated payment of terminal benefits such as Gratuity, Provident Fund, Leave Salary and commutation of pension amount. 2.In the affidavit filed in support of the writ petition, it was contended that the writ petitioners had been working as Drivers/Conductors under the respondent and had retired upon attaining the age of superannuation. It was further contended that the retirement benefits, such as Gratuity, Provident Fund, Leave Salary and Commutation of Pension, were paid with considerable delay. The writ petitioners seek interest on the belated payment. 2/4

3.Heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and the learned Standing Counsel for the respondents. 4.A direction is therefore issued to the respondents to examine the Service Register of each one of the petitioners and verify the date when the amount was disbursed. If it is found that the amount was disbursed with delay, interest at the rate of 6% per annum shall be granted from the date of retirement until the actual date of disbursement. The entire exercise shall be completed within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. 5.With the above direction, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. No costs.
