PRAYER: Criminal Original Petition filed under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, to call for the records relating to the FIR in Crime No.144 of 2020 dated 19.02.2020 on the file of the Respondent and quash the same. ORDER

The Criminal Original Petition has been filed to quash the FIR in Crime No.144 of 2020 dated 19.02.2020 on the file of respondent. 2.The case of the prosecution is that the accused persons had formed and unlawfully assembled on 19.02.2020 and had conducted a protest opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill and other issues. Based on the complaint, FIR came to be registered in Crime No.144 of 2020. 3.Heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and the learned Additional Public Prosecutor for the respondent.

4.In the considered view of this Court, all the cases that were registered during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill was withdrawn by

the Government through G.O.(Ms.)No.368, Home (Courts-IV) Department, dated 04.09.2021. Accordingly, nearly 5570 cases were withdrawn. In view of the same, there is no reason for continuing with the FIR in Crime No.144 of 2020 before the respondent police.

5.In the light of the above development, no useful purpose will be served in continuing with the investigation. Accordingly, this Criminal Original Petition stands allowed and as a sequel, the FIR in Crime No.144 of 2020 on the file of respondent police is quashed in entirety. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petition is closed.
