ORDER

The relief sought for in this petition is to direct the second respondent herein to grant permission to the petitioner to conduct the prayer meeting at Pon Vizhla Kalai Arangam, Sulur, Coimbatore District on 27th, 28th and 29th of April 2018 and grant adequate police protection based on the orders of the first respondent dated 16.04.2018, within the time frame.

2. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and Mr. D. Raja, learned Government Advocate for the respondents.

3. The petitioner filed W.P. No. 5256 of 2018 seeking permission to conduct prayer meeting at Pon Vizha Kalai Arangam, Sulur on 27th, 28th and 29th of April 2018. This Court passed the following order on 08.03.2018.

"3. It is needless to point out that whenever an application of such a nature is made to the statutory authorities, they are duty bound to consider the same in one way or other, rather than keeping it pending indefinitely, which amounts to dereliction of the official duties.

4. In the result, there shall be a direction to the first respondent to consider the petitioner's representation dated 05.02.2018 on its own merits and pass appropriate orders in accordance with law on or before 23.03.2018.

5. With the above direction, the Writ Petition stands disposed of."

4. Thereafter, the Sulur Municipality has issued a communication dated 16.04.2018, in which it is stated that if the petitioner obtains necessary permission from the police, the Municipality will not have any objection in granting the permission. Hence, the petitioner has given the letter dated 16.04.2018 to the Inspector of Police, Sulur Police Station.

5. In such view of the matter, the Inspector of Police, Sulur Police Station is directed to consider the representation and pass appropriate orders on merits, within three days from today. Mr. G. Gunasekaran, Sub Inspector of Police, Sulur Police Station, is present in the court today.

6. The Writ Petition is disposed of, accordingly. No costs.
