Respondents Prayer: This Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeking for a writ of mandamus, directing the respondents 1 and 2 herein to provide adequate police protection to the petitioner St. Antonys Church 77th Annual Festival to be conducted from 4th June 2015 to 13.6.2015 at Aranthangi Village and Post Kattumannarkovil Taluk, Cuddalore District for the smooth functioning of the festival, welfare of the worshipers, general public and administration committee.

By consent, the writ petition is taken up for final disposal.

2. The petitioner claims that he is the parish priest of St.Antony's Church, Aranthangi, Cuddalore District and he came forward to file this writ petition praying for adequate police protection to conduct 77th annual festival between 04.06.2015 and 13.06.2015.

The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that on earlier occasion, the petitioner has filed W.P.No.14514 of 2014, praying for similar relief to conduct the annual festival between 05.06.2014 and 14.06.2014 with adequate police protection and this Court after hearing the submission of the learned Additional Government Pleader as well as the learned counsel appearing for the private respondents, has permitted the procession, subject to certain conditions and similar kind of order may be passed in this writ petition also.

The Court heard the submissions of Mr.Roofus Abraham, learned Government Advocate, who accepts notice for respondents 1 and 2 and on instructions from the Mr.A.C.Chockalingam, Sub Inspector of Police, Solatharam Police Station, Cuddalore District, would submit that this year also adequate police protection will be given and the said submission is placed on record.

5. Though, the private respondents have not been put on notice, a perusal of the earlier order dated 09.06.2014 made in M.P.No.1 of 2014 in W.P.No.14514 of 2014, would disclose that they have no serious objection in granting such a protection.

In the result, the writ petition is disposed of and respondents 1 and 2, are directed to give adequate police protection for conducting 77th Annual Festival of petitioner Church, which culminates on 13.06.2015. It is further made clear that the respondents 3 to 7 are also permitted to take their chariots in the procession and other things connected with the procession will be made as per the decision of the petitioner Church. It is further made clear that the order passed in this writ petition will not give any right to either of the parties and the petitioner as well as the private respondents are directed to extend their maximum cooperation keeping in mind the solemnity of the occasion and the purpose of the festival.

7. The writ petition is disposed of, accordingly. No costs.
