ORDER

This Criminal Original Petition has been filed praying to direct the respondent to give police protection to the petitioner, her husband and family members.

2. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the respondent.

3. It is seen that the petitioner is a caste Hindu, who has married a Dalit on 25.05.2015, which is being objected to by the parents of the petitioner and hence the petitioner has approached this Court for police protection.

4. In Lata Singh Vs State of Uttarpradesh and another [2006] 5 SCC 475, the Hon'ble Supreme Court has directed that the Courts should encourage inter-caste marriage and sufficient protection should be given to couples who undergo intercaste marriage.

5. Under such circumstances, this Court directs the petitioner and her husband to appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police, St.Thomas Mount, Chennai, under whose jurisdiction the respondent Police Station falls and give a representation for police protection and on such representation being given, the Superintendent of Police is directed to enquire into it and ensure that no harm befalls them. https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

6. It is also represented that the petitioner's father is the Inspector of Police, serving in Perambalur District, which should also be borne in mind by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, while conducting enquiry.

7. With the above direction, this Criminal Original Petition is closed.
