This Writ Petition has been filed for a direction to the respondents to consider the petitioner's representation dated 14.02.2023 and to grant the compensation amount of Rs.20,00,000/- to the petitioner towards the death of her husband due to electrocution.
2. Mr.Venkata Seshaiya, learned Standing Counsel (TNEB) takes notice for respondents.
3. It is the case of the petitioner that her husband is a daily wager and he was herding goats and on the fateful day, he came in contact with the live electric wire and died on the spot, pursuant to which, FIR was registered in Crime No.557 of 2022. It is the claim of the petitioner that death of her husband was on account of negligence on the part of the respondents, however, the respondents have not paid any compensation to the petitioner. Hence, the petitioner made a representation dated 14.02.2023 seeking compensation Page No:2/6
amount of Rs.20,00,000/- with 12% interest towards the death of her husband. However, till date, the same has not been considered. Hence, this Writ Petition.
4. Though very many grounds have been raised, learned counsel for the petitioner submits that it would suffice if this Court issues a direction to the respondents to consider the petitioner's representation dated 14.02.2023 and pay compensation amount to the petitioner.
5. Learned Standing Counsel (TNEB) appearing for the respondents submits that pursuant to the petitioner's representation, a sum of Rs.5,00,000/- has already been paid to the petitioner towards the compensation.
6. It is the claim of the petitioner that no compensation amount has been paid by the respondents towards the death of her husband, however, learned Standing Counsel submits that already the compensation amount of Rs.5,00,000/- has been paid to the petitioner. If at all the petitioner has grievance with the compensation amount paid, liberty is granted to the petitioner to work out her remedy in the manner known to law. Page No:3/6
7. This Writ Petition stands disposed of with the aforesaid direction. There shall be no order as to costs.
