ORDER

This writ petition is filed to direct the 2nd respondent to extend the service of the petitioner as Teaching Staff and allow him to work till the end of Academic Year i.e. on 30.06.2026 with all consequential service benefits.

2. It is the case of the petitioner that the petitioner was appointed as Assistant Professor in Economics Department of the second respondent University on 24.06.2005 by the second respondent. From the date of appointment, the petitioner has been working in the said department in the Periyar University, Salem. Though the petitioner is going to attain the age of superannuation on 31.03.2026, he is entitled to continue his service till the end of the Academic year i.e.,30.06.2026 as per Rule 2 (i) of the Statutes of Periyar University. Seeking extension of service, the petitioner made a request to the second respondent vide representation dated 18.02.2026 and reminder dated 25.02.2026. However the same has not been considered. Hence, the present writ petition.

3. Heard the learned counsel on either side and perused the materials available on record.

4. Considering the relief now sought for by the learned counsel for the petitioner, this Court, without going into the merits of the case, directs the

second respondent to consider the petitioner's representation, on merits and in accordance with law and to pass appropriate orders, within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
