Order This Writ Petition is filed by the petitioner to direct the first respondent to dispose the statutory appeal.
2. Case of the petitioner is that his late grandfather S.P.Gandhi had obtained a valid license for the fire arm viz., 12 bore SBBL Gun NO.A-380489 and had renewed the license periodically. After his grandfather death, it has been safely deposited at Tamil Nadu Armoury in compliance with the statutory requirements. While so, the petitioner had applied license to procure his late grandfather's fire arm, before the 2nd respondent. However, his application was rejected on 25.07.2025. Challenging the same, the petitioner approached the 1st respondent by filing a statutory appeal under Section 18 of the Arms Act, 1959, which is pending consideration. Aggrieved by the inaction on the part of the 1st respondent on the appeal, the petitioner is before this Court.
3. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner would submit that it would suffice, if the first respondent is directed to dispose of the appeal filed on 25.08.2025, on merits and in accordance with law, within a specified period.
4. The learned counsel appearing for the respondents has no objection for such an order being passed by this Court.
5. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and learned counsel appearing for the respondents.
6. In view of the limited request made by the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner, this Court, without going into the merits of the case, directs the first respondent to dispose the appeal filed by the petitioner dated 25.08.2025 and pass appropriate orders on merits and in accordance with law within a period of twelve weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
7. With the above direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
