ORDER

By consent of both the parties, this writ petition is taken up for final disposal at the time of admission itself.

2.It is stated by the petitioner in the affidavit filed in support of this writ petition that he is at present holding the post of Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, Puducherry and as a Chairperson, he performed his duties sincerely. The Government of Puducherry has issued a notification on 28.05.2020 for appointment to the post of Chairperson in the Union Territory of Puducherry, Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Puducherry for which the upper age limit is prescribed as 65 years. Even though the petitioner has crossed 65 years, he made an application as per the prescribed format and also made a representation to the Lt.Governor of Puducherry on 01.06.2020 to give age relaxation by considering his candidature to the said post, taking note of his experience as Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee and the said representation is pending without any progress. Hence, the petitioner has filed this writ petition seeking a mandamus to the respondent to pass orders on the said representation.

3.Mr.D.Ravindran, learned Additional Government Pleader, takes notice for the respondents.

4.Considering the limited nature of the relief sought for herein, without expressing any opinion as regards the merits of the contentions raised by the petitioner, the first respondent is directed to consider the representation of the petitioner dated 01.06.2020 and pass appropriate orders on merits and in accordance with law, after affording due opportunity of personal hearing to the petitioner, within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
