IN THE HIGH COURT OF JUDICATURE AT MADRAS

DATED: 01.04.2026 C O R A M THE HONOURABLE MR.JUSTICE M.DHANDAPANI and 12117 of 2026 L.R.Palanisamy ... Petitioner Vs 1.The Superintendent Engineer GEDC, TANGEDCO, Gobichettipalayam, Erode (Dt) 2.The Executive Engineer, Operation and Maintenance, TANGEDCO, Gobichettipalayam, Erode District.

3.The Assistant Executive Engineer, Operation and Maintenance, Gobi-South, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Gobichettipalayam, Erode District.

4.The Assistant Engineer, Operation and Maintenance, Getticheviyur, Nambiyur (Tk) Erode District.

... Respondents For Petitioner : Mr.K.Rajendran For Respondents : Mr.I.Syed Sibghatulla, Standing Counsel 1/4

O R D E R Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that this Court, by its order dated 18.03.2026, directed the respondents to effect electricity service connection to the subject properties upon payment of necessary charges by the petitioner and to file a report to that effect on or before 01.04.2026. However, the said order has not been complied with by the respondents despite payment of necessary charges, on the ground that the scheme itself provides a maximum period of six months for effecting electricity service connection and therefore, he prayed this Court for passing appropriate orders. It is further submitted by the learned counsel that due to monsoon season, the coconut trees are wilting without water due to non-drawal of water for want of electricity connection and, therefore, atleast to save the coconut trees, one connection may be provided immediately.

2. However, the learned counsel appearing for the respondents submitted that the above said direction will be complied with within a period of two weeks.

3. Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and also the submissions advanced by the learned counsel appearing on either side, this Court is of the considered view, that the prescribed time period of six months for providing electricity service connection does not mean that such connection must 2/4

necessarily be provided at the end of the said period. Further, the submission on behalf of the petitioner that the coconut trees are wilting in the monsoon season due to non-availability of water merits acceptance, as the extreme heat caused due to rising temperatures not only affects humans but also the crops and other grocery. Hence, this Court directs the respondents to effect one electricity service connection within a period of two weeks from today and file a report to that effect before this Court on or before the next date of hearing i.e., on 15.04.2026. The respondents are further directed to effect remaining service connections within a period of six months from the date of payment of necessary charges by the petitioner.

4. Post the matter on 15.04.2026 for reporting compliance. 01.04.2026 Index : Yes / No Speaking Order / Non-speaking order Nhs Note to Office : Issue Order Copy on 02.04.2026 3/4
