(Made by Ms.Indira Banerjee, Chief Justice) This writ petition in public interest has been filed seeking a writ of mandamus directing the respondents, particularly, the first to third respondents to sanction courses of B.A.(History), B.Sc.(Physics), B.Sc. (Chemistry), B.Sc.(Zoology), B.Sc.(Botony) and B.Sc.(Bio-chemistry) at the Government Arts and Science College, Manalmedu, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam District, to enable admission of students during the academic year 2018-2019. 2.The petitioner claims that the writ petition is in the interest of people of Kadalangudi Village area, which, according to the petitioner, is an area thickly populated by agricultural families. It is stated that the college has already sent a request-cum-proposal to the respondent authorities in August, 2017. However, no decision has yet been taken. 3.

After hearing the learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner and the learned Special Government Pleader for respondents 1, 2 and 4, we dispose of the writ petition by directing the Directorate of College Education to take a decision on the request of the college at the earliest and in any case, within 30th April, 2018.

4.Needless to mention that we have not gone into the merits of the claim of the College. The third respondent University shall also take a decision in this regard in accordance with law. 6.The writ petition is disposed of. No costs.
