They are armed with instructions to enable final disposal of these Writ Petitions, even at the stage of admission.
2. All the petitioners belong to Arunthathiyar community, a Scheduled Caste. They seek a mandamus directing the respondent to decide their representations dated 10.02.2022, 15.12.2023 and 19.02.2022, respectively, within a time frame.
3. The members of the Scheduled Caste community have been 2/5
identified for assistance from the Government for funds for construction of house. Land has also been acquired by the State for the purpose of allotment to them.
4. Written instructions submitted by Mr.U.Bharanidharan, learned Additional Government Pleader also refers to the proceedings under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, wherein 0.46.0 hectares of land have been acquired for the provision of house sites to Arunthathiyar Community.
5. Efforts were made by the respondent to identify the eligibility of the persons for allotment of the land and the petitioners and their families were found so eligible. Accordingly, representations were made to the respondent as early as on February, 2022 and December, 2023, which are yet to see the light of the day. Hence, these writ petitions.
6. On instructions, learned Additional Government Pleader would accede to the position that the representations have been duly received and will be disposed expeditiously.
7. Hence, mandamus is issued to the District Collector/sole respondent to hear the petitioners and consider their request for allotment of house sites as contained in their representation and dispose their representations as expeditiously as possible in accordance with law, in any event, not beyond six(6) weeks from date of receipt of a copy of this 3/5
order.
