This Writ Petition has been filed to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to pay the Michaung Cyclone Relief Fund of Rs.6,000/- to the petitioner, as per the Government Press Release No.2470, dated 09.12.2023 by considering his representation dated 08.03.2024. 2.
The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that due to the Mischaung Cyclone during 3rd and 4th December, 2023, the petitioner was severely affected and his properties were also damaged. While so, as Chennai and its neighbouring Districts were severely affected by the Mischaung Cycle, the Government of Tamil Nadu by its press release No.2470, dated 01.12.2023, announced flood relief funds to those who affected by the cyclone and also issued tokens to disburse the relief fund. As such, the petitioner was also issued with a token No.147 by the employees of Mathur ration shop MMDA Shop No.2 HE 087 NT Mathur 5, informing him to collect the same on 24.12.2023. When the petitioner went to collect the relief fund, the officials informed him that the relief funds will be issued on 26.12.2023. On that date, the petitioner was orally informed that the payment of relief funds to the remaining token holders were stopped on 23.12.2023 3/6
itself thereby the petitioner along with other affected persons demonstrated a protest. Therefore, the revenue officials came to the spot and informed that the ration shop officials might have mistakenly given wrong dates on the token and assured them to take necessary steps within three days. As there was no action taken, the petitioner made a representation on 19.01.2024 to the respondents 3 to 5. However, they have sent a letter to the Treasury stating that they are not responsible officers to deal with the payments of cyclone relief fund. Therefore, the petitioner made a detailed representation on 08.03.2024 to the first and second respondents. Since there was no reply from the respondents 1 and 2, the petitioner has filed this Writ Petition. 3.
Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner, the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the Respondents 1 and 2 and the learned Government Advocate appearing for the respondents 3 to 5. 4.
Considering the fact that the Government of Tamil Nadu announced the Flood Relief Fund to those who affected in Mischaung Cyclone by its Press Release No.2470, dated 09.12.2023 and in pursuance of the same, the petitioner was issued with a token No.147 for payment of relief funds, this Court directs the sixth respondent to consider and pass appropriate 4/6
orders on the representation of the petitioner dated 08.03.2024 within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of copy of this order. 5.
With the above direction, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. No costs.
