ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by the Hon'ble Chief Justice) This writ petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeks a Writ of Mandamus to direct the official respondents to consider the petitioner's representation dated 15.12.2025, seeking establishment of a police booth, deployment of personnel, installation of CCTV cameras, and round-the-clock surveillance, to protect safety of women.

2. Learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that opposite to the Ennore Bus Stand, a government liquor shop is functioning. Women and girls who alight at the bus stand after school, college, or work are compelled to walk past this liquor shop. Alcohol consumers frequently gather near the said shop, and in and around the bus stand premises, consume liquor openly; engage in obscene conversations, behave indecently, and at times lie on the road in an intoxicated state. Such activities have created an unsafe, uncomfortable, and intimidating environment for women, girl students, and daily commuters. Presently, the nearest police booth is situated about 1.5km from the liquor shop and due to absence of immediate police presence near the bus stand, unlawful and indecent activities continue unchecked. In this regard, the petitioner has preferred a representation dated 15.12.2025. However, the respondents have not decided on the same till date. Therefore, the petitioner has come forward with this petition, seeking the prayer aforementioned.

3. On the other hand, learned State counsel submitted that the pending representation shall be decided in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible.

4. In view of the aforesaid statement, we direct respondents 2 and 3 to decide the representation of the petitioner dated 15.12.2025, in accordance with law and redress the grievance of the petitioner at the earliest and in any case, within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of certified copy of the order.

5. We make it clear that we have not expressed any opinion on the merits of the case. The writ petition stands disposed of. There will be no order as to costs.
