Respondents PRAYER: Petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ of mandamus to direct the respondents to open the paddy procurement centres where the cultivation is on a larger scale, without the farmers making representation for procuring their products, as they fear that due to lack of proper storage facilities, the paddy bags will start sprouting if the rain continues and to submit a report before this Court. For Respondents : Mr.R.Shunmugasundaram Advocate-General assisted by Ms.Shabnam Banu Counsel for the State
ORDER
(Order of the Court was made by the Hon'ble Chief Justice) A report has been filed by the Special Secretary to Government, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department. The report is dated July 14, 2021. The report indicates several measures taken across the State, including by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, at the direct purchase centres.
2. In view of the comprehensive measures that appear to have been taken by the State and the interest shown by the concerned Minister in accompanying officials to inspect several places, this writ petition appears to have served its purpose. The State government would do well to think of permanent structures in future to ensure that crops are not left in the open for them to be washed away or affected by unseasonal rains.
3. W.P.No.12577 of 2021 is disposed of. There will be no order as to costs.
