O R D E R
Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Government Advocate appearing for the respondents and perused the materials available on record.
2. This Writ Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondents to consider and pass orders for promotion as Woman Inspector of Police in the light of the representation made by the petitioner dated 25.02.2016 within a reasonable time.

The petitioner was appointed as Woman Police Constable based on the selection conducted by the second respondent and she was appointed as Grade-II PC and allotted to serve in Chennai City Police through the proceedings of the Commissioner of Police dated 11.02.1981. The petitioner thereafter, promoted as Woman Grade-II Police Constable along with 47 others. At the time of recruitment, there was no adhoc rules for promotion to the post of Grade-I Woman Police Constable. Following the training, the petitioner was appointed as Grade-I Police Constable. The petitioner was upgraded as Head Constable in the year 1996. Thereafter, she was promoted as Sub Inspector of Police, as per the order of the second respondent dated 12.10.2004. The petitioner has received 50 rewards and there are no adverse remarks against her.

4. The grievance of the petitioner is that the upgradation policy of 5 years as Grade-I Police Constables to become Head Constables has not been followed in the case of the Woman Constables. Had there been a uniform policy followed, the petitioner has become Sub Inspector of Police in the year 1996 and further promoted as Inspector of Police in the year 2007.

Under those circumstances, mentioning all the details, the petitioner submitted a representation to the respondents on 25.02.2016, though it was acknowledged by the respondents, there was no response. Aggrieved by the action of the respondents in not considering the representation of the petitioner dated 25.02.2016, the petitioner constrained to approach this Court by filing this writ petition.

Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and the prayer sought in this writ petition, in our considered view, this writ petition can be disposed of without going into the merits of the case at this stage by directing the respondents to consider the representation dated 25.02.2016 of the petitioner within the time to be stipulated herein to meet the interest of justice. 3/5

Accordingly, this Writ Petition is disposed of with a direction to the respondents to consider the representation submitted by the petitioner on 25.02.2016 in accordance with law and pass appropriate orders within a period of two weeks from the date of receipt of copy of this order and communicate the said order to the petitioner within one week thereafter.
There shall be no order as to costs.
