Hence, by consent of both learned counsel, this Writ Petition is disposed finally even at the stage of admission.

The plea for mandamus does not survive any further, since pending the institution of this Writ Petition, the representation for emergency leave of Muniraj, convict prisoner at Central Prison, Salem has been rejected on 25.02.2026. The order of rejection has also been communicated to the convict on the same day.

We must mention that the acknowledgement on the order of rejection does not inspire confidence, as there is an apparent difference between the signature and the handwriting in which the date has been affixed. Though we leave the matter as it is in the present case, we direct the Jail Superintendent of all Jails in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry to maintain a register for recording

acknowledgement of service of communications/orders on the convict prisoners. The register shall contain the name and number of the convict, his/her signature, the date on which the acknowledgement has been received and the endorsement by the concerned Jail Superintendent.
