ORDER

A case, for offence under Section 420 of I.P.C, is registered by the Inspector of Police, T-16 Police Station, Semmencherry in Crime No.200 of 2023 on 08.09.2023 on the alleged complaint received from one Usha Rani alleging that the petitioners have cheated her and others to a tune of Rs.31,14,020/- under the guise of conducting chit.

2. This petition is filed to quash the complaint stating that it is purely a money dispute between the complainant and the petitioners. Therefore, the respondent Police ought not to have registered the F.I.R. Infact, one Bharanidharan, the person whom the complainant alleged to have collected money, died before registration of the F.I.R and the petitioners are legal heirs of the said Bharanidharan.

3. Learned Government Advocate (Crl. Side) for the first respondent submits that about 30 complaints have been so far received against these petitioners and from the complaints, it appears that more than Rs.4 crores have been cheated by these petitioners. Therefore, the investigation has 2/5

now been transferred from the jurisdictional Police to Economic Offences Wing, Chennai.

4. This Court finds that a serious allegation regarding commission of cognizable offence is made out and multiple victims have reported about the crime. Hence, this is not a fit case to be quashed in exercise of the powers under Section 482 of Cr.P.C. The matter has to be properly investigated.

5. Hence, this Criminal Original Petition is dismissed. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petition is closed.
