ORDER

Challenging the proceedings of the respondent dated 26.12.2016, the petitioner has filed this writ petition.

The case of the petitioner is that he preferred an application to the respondent seeking permission to conduct a 'Protest Demonstration' on 04.01.2017 near Swadeshi Cotton Mill, Maraimalai Adigal Salai, Puducherry for the purpose of paying compensation to one Vinoth, who was alleged to have been assaulted by the police personnel attached to Orleanpet Police Station and taking action against the said police personnel. However, without conducting any enquiry, the said application was rejected by the respondent, stating that the proposed Protest Demonstration is likely to cause breach of peace, https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

tranquillity in the area and also cause obstruction to free flow of traffic. Hence, this petition.

3. This Court is of the view that since the date on which the Protest Demonstration was scheduled to be held on 04.01.2017, was over, the relief sought for herein has become infructuous.

4. Hence, this Writ Petition is dismissed. However, it is open to the petitioner to file a fresh application to the respondent and on filing of such application, the respondent is directed to consider the same and pass appropriate orders.
