Respondents Prayer: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeking for a writ of mandamus directing the 1st respondent to consider the petitioner for accelerated promotion for his bravery act, by extending the same benefits given to the police personnel vide G.O.Ms.No.1346 Home [Police VIII] Department dated 06.12.2014 in accordance with the recommendation of the 3rd respondent dated 26.09.2005.

By consent, the writ petition is taken up for final disposal. The petitioner, while working as Village Administrative Officer, is said to have negotiated with the brother of the slain forest brigand Veerappan and secured the release of the hostages and in the light of the bravery act, the then Collector of Coimbatore District, has given a letter of Commendation dated 02.03.1995 and according to the petitioner, necessary proposals have also been forwarded to grant them other benefits which included accelerated promotion and since no orders have been passed, the petitioner came forward to file this writ petition. https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

Learned counsel for the petitioner has invited the attention of this Court to the typed set of papers and would submit that the Collector of Coimbatore District has forwarded proposals as early as on 26.09.2005 to confer the petitioner with such a benefit and the petitioner has also submitted representation in this regard and since no orders have been passed, he is constrained to file this writ petition.

This Court heard the submissions of Mr.V.Subbiah, learned Special Government Pleader who accepts notice on behalf of the respondents.

Though the petitioner has sought for a larger relief, this Court, in the light of the above facts and circumstances and without going into the merits of the claim projected by the petitioner, directs the 3rd respondent to act on the letter of the 2nd respondent dated 15.03.2013 made in foj vz;/ gzp 5(1)/65186/2012 and pass orders within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order and communicate the decision taken to the petitioner.
