Respondents Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issue of Writ of Mandamus to direct the respondents to forthwith ensure that all Government websites are made compliant with the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) incorporating the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) content accessibility guidelines within a time frame fixed by this Court.

(Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble Chief Justice) The counter-affidavit filed by the first respondent leave us to the only one concern, i.e. the time period within which all the websites would be made compliant. This concern arises from apparently only 38 websites being made compliant, as against 2000 websites. We, thus, posed a query to the learned counsel for the respondents as to when is this task expected to be completed, as there are bound to be targets for completing the task. If the pace is the same, then the task would take decades. 2.Learned counsel for the respondents assures us, on instructions, that within a maximum period of one year from today, all the websites would be made compliant. 3.We take the aforesaid statement on record and dispose of the writ petition, leaving the parties to bear their own costs. 4.List on 19.09.2016 to show the progress of compliance.
