O R D E R

This Writ Petition is filed seeking a direction to the respondent to pass orders on the application dated 29.06.2021 of the petitioner, to re-issue of the passport.

2. The brief facts of the case are that the petitioner was issued with a passport by the respondent with validity upto 02.10.2026. Since the petitioner lost his passport on 16.05.2021, he lodged a police complaint before the Inspector of Police, Vepery Police Station, Chennai. For having received the complaint a CSR receipt was given on 29.06.2021. On receipt of the same, the petitioner made an application, dated 29.06.2021 for issuance of duplicate passport or re-issue of passport. Even though the petitioner was given appointment thrice and he also attended on those dates, during which a formal enquiry was conducted, till date, the respondent has not issued a passport to the petitioner. Therefore, the petitioner is before this Court with this Writ Petition. https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

The Learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that the petitioner's application dated 29.06.2021 is still pending consideration of the respondent and therefore, a direction shall be issued to the respondent to pass appropriate orders on merits.

Mrs. N.K. Nithila Vani, learned Central Government Standing Counsel submitted that the respondent be directed to consider the petitioner's application and pass orders in accordance with law.

Considering the nature of relief sought for in this Writ Petiton, this Court, without going into the merits of the case, directs the respondent to consider the petitioner's application dated 29.06.2021, if not already considered and pass appropriate orders thereof, on merits and in accordance with law, after affording an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner, within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

With the above direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
