Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing respondents to consider the representation dated 08.02.2021 made by the petitioner for premature release of the petitioner under the scheme of premature release of life convicts, within a reasonable period.

[Order of the Court was made by P.N.PRAKASH, J] This petition has been filed seeking issuance of a Writ of Mandamus directing respondents to consider the representation of the petitioner dated 08.02.2021 for premature release. https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

2. Poongothai, a convict prisoner (CT No.156), who is now confined in the Special Prison for Women, Puzhal, Chennai - 600 066, gave a representation dated 08.02.2021 to the Government seeking premature release in terms of G.O.(Ms).No.64, Home (Prison-IV) Department dated 01.02.2018 and G.O.(Ms) No.480, Home (Prison-IV) Department dated 12.09.2001.

3. On instructions, learned Public Prosecutor submitted that the Government has received the petitioner's representation and the same is under consideration.

4. In view of the above, we direct the first respondent to dispose of the petitioner's representation dated 08.02.2021 within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order, in accordance with law and intimate the petitioner.

With the above direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
