Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of Constitution of India seeking for a writ of mandamus, directing the respondent to instruct his officers to provide adequate police protection to the meetings or public functions presided by the Opposition Leader Thiru Vijaykant, scheduled in 17 districts from 07.10.2015 to 21.11.2015 as stated above and for any other meetings or public functions as referred in the representation dated 23.09.2015 given by the petitioner to the respondent.

O R D E R

This Writ Petition has been filed by the Deputy Secretary - Party Legal Wing, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, Koyambedu, Chennai, seeking for a writ of mandamus, directing the respondent to instruct his officers to provide adequate police protection to the meetings or public functions presided by the Opposition Leader Thiru Vijaykant, scheduled in 17 Districts from 07.10.2015 to 21.11.2015 and for any other meetings or public functions as https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

referred in the representation dated 23.09.2015 given by him to the respondent.

2. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner as well as the learned Public Prosecutor appearing for the respondent.

3. In the considered opinion of this Court, such a large prayer cannot be granted in as much as the Police strength in each District varies. Therefore, the petitioner, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, is given liberty to give new representation to the concerned District Superintendents of Police for police protection. Taking into consideration the threat perception, the Superintendent of Police concerned shall accord sufficient protection to Mr. Vijaykant, Leader of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, in accordance with law.

4. With the above liberty, the writ petition is dismissed. No Cost.
