ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by S.M.SUBRAMANIAM, J.) With reference to the relief sought for in the present writ petition, the first respondent/the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Chennai Range, Chennai filed sworn affidavit stating that the functioning of Prisoners' Canteen is governed by the Rules contained in Part-XI of the Tamil Nadu Prison Manual Volume - III. As per the Prison Manual, the basic essential articles i.e., 20 items are being placed for sale to the prisoners through Prisoners' Canteen. Admittedly, the canteen was closed on account of certain reasons and subsequently it is opened. Now, the canteen is functioning and the prisoners are eligible to avail the facility provided in canteen. The Deputy Inspector General of Prisons further stated that in future, the guidelines already issued by the learned Judicial Magistrate - I, Ambattur, Tiruvallur District will be strictly followed and articles permitted as per the Rules will be supplied to the prisoners through PCP Canteen.

In view of the said undertaking given by the respondents, no further adjudication needs to be undertaken and consequently, the writ petition stands disposed of. No costs.
