(Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble Chief Justice) The petitioner prays for a Writ of Mandamus to remove the caste names prefixed or suffixed into the names of Government and Government aided educational institutions in the State of Tamil Nadu.

2.In the counter-affidavit, the respondents state that some aided private colleges are solely maintained by educational agencies of that college and most of them are minority institutions. As far as the petitioner mentioning the names of some aided minority colleges is concerned, it has been averred that as per the Tamil Nadu Private Colleges (Regulation) Act, 1976 and the Rules framed thereunder, it is the educational agency / college committee which is competent to run the college and the Government is in no way involved with the process of naming of the aided colleges. The Government itself is not running any college under a particular caste / community name. 3.Learned counsel for the petitioner has also drawn the attention of this Court to a list of schools which are stated to be Government schools which have caste names.

In this behalf, learned Special Government Pleader points out that the concerned Ministry has not even been impleaded as a party. Be that as it may, there may be some Government schools and some aided schools and if the petitioner is of the view on enquiry that these are all Government schools, he may address a communication / representation to the relevant department of the State Government.
