Respondents Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issue of Writ of Mandamus to direct the respondents to take immediate steps to prefer a complaint before the police for investigation and for recovery of the stolen idol of Lord Murugan and restraining the respondents from replacing the ancient idol of Somaskanthar in the Ekambareswarar Temple, Kanchipuram, with a new one.

O R D E R

(Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble Chief Justice) The petitioner seeks a direction for the respondent authorities to immediately prefer a complaint before the concerned police authorities about the stolen idol of Lord Murugan and from any other statue replacing the same. The petitioner has woken up after more than two decades to say that the statue is stolen.

2.Learned Government Pleader states that in fact, the statue was stolen in the year 1993 when police complaints were lodged and despite of endeavours, the statue has not been secured. 3.We see no purpose in this public interest litigation, which is closed. No costs.
