ORDER
This Criminal Original Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondent police to file the final report in Crime No.535 of 2024 pending on the file of the respondent police, within a stipulated period.
2. When the matter was taken up for hearing, the learned Government Advocate (Criminal Side), on instructions, submitted that the final report could not be filed as the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report is awaited.
3. This Court, by its earlier order dated 02.06.2025, directed the Registry to call for a report from the learned Judicial Magistrate, Ambattur, regarding the status of Crime No.535 of 2024 specifically, to ascertain (i) when the learned Magistrate received the sample and covering letter from the Investigating Officer, (ii) when the sample was forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory, and (iii) whether the forensic report has since been received. In response, the learned Magistrate, by proceedings dated __.06.2025, confirmed that the sample and requisition letter were received from the Investigating Officer on 31.12.2024 and the same were forwarded to the Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, Mylapore, Chennai, on 03.01.2025. However, the forensic report is still awaited. 2 / 5
4. In the circumstances, this Criminal Original Petition is disposed of with the following directions:
(i) The learned Judicial Magistrate concerned shall issue a reminder to the Forensic Science Laboratory with reference to the request letter dated 03.01.2025, seeking early submission of the report.
(ii) On receipt of the forensic report, the respondent police shall take expeditious steps to complete the investigation and file the final report in Crime No.535 of 2024, in accordance with law, preferably within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of the forensic report.
