The petitioner who apprehends arrest at the hands of the respondent police for the offences punishable under Section 328 of IPC r/w 7, 20(1) of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 in Crime No. 150 of 2022, seeks anticipatory bail.

2. The case of the prosecution is that on 10.04.2022, the respondent police on a routine vehicle check-up at Poonapalli Police check-post intercepted a lorry bearing registration No.TN 22 DH 1792. Upon confiscation, the respondent police seized banned tobacco products weighing 9,092 kilograms worth about Rs.52,03,978/- from the accused persons. Hence, the case.

3. The petitioner was in possession of huge quantity of banned tobacco products, therefore, custodial interrogation of the petitioner is very much required.

4. Hence, this Court is not inclined to grant anticipatory bail to the petitioner and this Criminal Original Petition is dismissed. 06.07.2022 mpl
