The writ petitioner was serving as a Grade II Police Constable in the Tamil Nadu Special Police II Battalion. Vide order dated 13.12.2013 made by Respondent No.3 before this Court, the petitioner was removed from service on certain charges including desertion. Thereafter, the petitioner has sent a representation dated 31.07.2017 to Respondents 1 and 2 before this Court. The writ petitioner says that this is a mercy petition.

2.Ms.R.Janaki, learned Additional Government Pleader, accepts notice on behalf of all the respondents. 3.Considering the innocuous nature of the prayer, I am inclined to accede to the request of the petitioner. Respondent No.2 before this Court i.e., the Director General of Police, Chennai, is directed to dispose of the petition, styled as 'mercy petition' dated 31.07.2017 within a time frame of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. The disposal shall be in accordance with law and at the discretion of the second respondent and an opportunity of personal hearing shall be given to the writ petitioner. The copy of the order of disposal shall be communicated to the writ petitioner within seven working days from the date of disposal of the petition. The writ petition is disposed of on above terms. No costs.
