O R D E R
This writ petition has been filed for direction to the respondents to appoint the petitioner to the post of Assistant Engineer in the Tamilnadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited. 2.
Heard, the learned counsel appearing on either side. 3.
The petitioner had completed her Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. She had also registered her name for apprenticeship training of one year. Accordingly, she was appointed as apprentice on 26.11.2012 and she had completed the training on 25.11.2013. In the meanwhile, the respondents issued notification for recruitment to the post of Assistant Engineer in the newspaper on 26.05.2013. As per the notification, degree holders who 2/6
have completed one year of Apprenticeship Training shall register their names. However, she was not selected to the said post. 4.
On perusal of the counter filed by the second respondent revealed that during the year 2013, the Board has approved for filling up of 200 posts of Assistant Engineer / Electrical, 50 posts of Assistant Engineer / Mechanical and 25 posts of Assistant Engineer / Civil by direct recruitment through employment exchange. While proceedings was issued, a list of qualified candidates was called from the employment exchange. Thereafter, it was also published in the newspapers and specified the eligibility as 'Engineering Graduates who have completed one year apprenticeship training in TNEB /TANGEDCO' were called to register their names in the Office of the Tamilnadu Electricity Board Headquarters, Chennai. Accordingly, around 2540 candidates were registered their names and subsequently they were called for certificate verification. However, on the date of certificate verification, the petitioner was undergoing graduate apprenticeship training and she had completed apprenticeship training only on 25.11.2013. In pursuant to the 3/6
order passed by this court, the certification verification was extended and accordingly, certificate verification was held from 18.11.2013 to 23.11.2013. In fact, the petitioner failed to attend the interview for certificate verification. Even if the petitioner attended the certificate verification, she would not have been selected since she did not complete the apprenticeship training before 18.11.2013. She had completed her apprenticeship training on on 25.11.2013.
5.
Therefore, she is not eligible for selection to the post of Assistant Engineer. Hence, the prayer sought for in this writ petition cannot be considered. As such, this writ petition is devoid of merits and liable to be dismissed. Accordingly, this writ petition is dismissed. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petition is closed. There shall be no order as to costs.
