The petitioners are victims of cheating and breach of trust. The case against the perpetrator of the crime in Crime No.01 of 2024 dated 16.02.2024 is under investigation by the Economic Offence Wing. The petitioners seek direction to complete the investigation and file final report within specific period.

The learned Government Advocate (Crl.Side) appearing for the respondent police states that initially a case was registered in Crime No.547 of 2023 on 03.01.2024 by the Peerkankaranai Police. Considering the gravity of the crime, investigation been transferred to EOW. The crime involves cheating of several persons, 248 cars have to be recovered in this case as case property. So far only 60 cars recovered and remaining 188 cars are to be recovered. After transfer of investigation from Tambaram police to EOW in the month of January 2024, 20 cars were recovered. Since the investigation team is on spear of recovery of remaining cars, 6 months time needed to complete the investigation and file final report.

Considering the nature of the case and the reasons stated by the learned Government Advocate (Crl.Side), this Criminal Original Petition is disposed of with direction to complete the investigation and file final report as expeditiously as possible.
