ORDER

By consent, this Writ Petition is taken up and disposed of at the stage of admission itself.

2. The petitioner has filed this writ petition for a Mandamus, directing the first respondent to consider and decide the representation dated 08.09.2014 made on behalf of the petitioner for his appointment in the police department on compassionate grounds on merits and in accordance with law within a reasonable time as may be determined by this court.

3. According to the petitioner, he has passed SSLC examination in July 2009 and he is eligible to be appointed in the police department. His brother P.Palaniyandi was working as police constable (PC1934/VL) under the second respondent and he died in harness on 05.08.2014. Hence, his mother Thilagavathi made a representation dated 08.09.2014 to the second respondent requesting to appoint the petitioner in the police department on compassionate grounds. Pursuant to the same, the second respondent directed the Sub Inspector of Police, Tirukovilur to obtain a comprehensive certificate for compassionate appointment from the Tahsildar, Panruti. Accordingly, the Tahsildar, Panruti issued a certificate dated 24.02.2015, a copy of which has also been handed over to the petitioner. Thereafter, the petitioner submitted all the necessary documents to the second respondent, who inturn forwarded the same to the first respondent. However, till date, no order has been passed by the first respondent. Therefore, the petitioner has come up with the present writ petition for the above stated relief.

4. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Special Government Pleader, who took notice for the respondents.

Considering the limited prayer sought for herein, this Court, without going into the merits of the claim made by the petitioner, directs the first respondent, to consider the representation dated 08.09.2014 submitted by the petitioner's mother on behalf of the petitioner, seeking appointment in the police department on compassionate grounds and pass appropriate orders, on merits and in accordance with law, after affording an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner, within a period of four months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
