ORDER

This Criminal Original Petition is filed seeking direction to the respondents to grant proper police protection to the petitioner and his family members.

2. The contention of the petitioner is that he had contested in Harbour Assembly Constituency under the banner of "Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam" for Tamil Nadu State Assembly Election, 2026. The petitioner was contesting against sitting MLA of the ruling DMK party and Minister of the State Cabinet. It is alleged by the petitioner that on 23.04.2026, the said MLA along with a mob, had physically attacked the petitioner and threatened him. Hence, he lodged a complaint on the same day. According to the petitioner it was a preplanned attack and he was admitted in National Hospital, Parrys Corner. Fearing further attack by the hooligans engaged by the ruling party MLA and Minister, the petitioner had filed the present petition seeking police protection.

The learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the respondent police, submitted that one P.S.Muralidaran had given a complaint to the Returning Officer of Harbour Assembly Constituency to Register FIR and the Inspector of Police, R1 Mambalam Police Station, had sent his report to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Flower Bazaar. The petitioner had also sent his representation dated 28.04.2026 to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Flower

Bazaar. Considering the petitioner's apprehension of fear and assault, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Flower Bazaar vide order dated 29.04.2026 passed in Rc.No.113/DCP FBD/CAMP/2026, had passed the following order by granting adequate police protection to the petitioner and his family:
