Petition filed under Article 226of the Constitution of India, praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents 1 and 2 to consider the representation dated 28.02.2025 and to implement /include Sports Quota as "Candidates who are Meritorious in Sports" (MSP), a Horizontal Reservation, in the reservation of Seats under "Puducherry UT Domicile" for the admission of UG/PG applicants for the academic year 2025-26 in the 5th respondent institute, within a time frame as stipulated by this court. ORDER
The petitioner made a representation on 28.02.2025 to the respondents 1 and 2. As the same was not considered and disposed of, the petitioner has come forward with the present writ petition.
2. The petitioner states that he is an expert in the sport of "Atya Patya". He claims that he had represented the Union Territory of Puducherry in numerous national-level events and had secured laurels for the Union Territory.
3. The petitioner pleads that it is his aspiration to become a doctor and
study at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) at Puducherry. Finding that there is no sports quota, he gave a representation as aforesaid to respondents 1 and 2. As it was not considered, he has come forward with the present writ petition.
4. Whether the reservation must be given to the sports category or not is a matter of policy decision. It has to be decided only by the Union of India, which governs the Union of Puducherry.
5. Mr.M.Sathiyan states that the representation dated 28.02.2025 will be considered and disposed of within a period of four weeks. The said statement is recorded.
6. There shall be a direction to dispose of the representation dated 28.02.2025 seeking reservation on sports quota for medical education at JIPMER within a period of four weeks from today. This writ petition is disposed of accordingly with the above directions. No costs.
