Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India seeking a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to close the TASMAC Wine Shop No.2609 located in Panapakkam Village, Panapakkam Post, Panruti Taluk, Cuddalore District, operated by Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Ltd. (TASMAC) on agricultural land within a time limit.

ORDER

(Made by the Hon'ble Acting Chief Justice) The case of the petitioner, who is a sexagenarian and an agriculturist, is that a TASMAC wine shop which is functioning in an agricultural land in her village, poses several hardships to the villagers; since the representation dated 01.06.2020 addressed by her to the first respondent seeking relocation of the said shop has not borne fruition, this writ petition has been filed in the form of a public interest litigation seeking a direction to the respondents to close the said shop.

The learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that though a Peace Committee meeting was held on 05.08.2023 in which it was decided by the officials to shift the TASMAC shop to some other place within a period 45 days, the TASMAC shop continues to be run in the same place.

In a riposte, the learned Standing Counsel for the third respondent/TASMAC submitted that the third respondent is now taking steps to relocate the shop and that the said process will be completed, at any rate, within a period of three months. Recording the aforesaid submission of the learned Standing Counsel for TASMAC, this writ petition stands disposed of, sans costs.
