ORDER

Heard Mr.S.Abdul Mussawwir Khan, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner, Mr.M.Sathyan, learned Central Government Standing Counsel accepting notice for the first respondent and Mr.V.Meghanathan, learned Government Advocate (Crl.Side) accepting notice for the second respondent.

2. The petitioner is a holder of an Indian passport. The validity of the passport issued to him is going to expire shortly. He want reissuance. The petitioner is facing criminal cases. Two criminal cases have culminated in (i) C.C.No.6702 of 2023 on the file of the learned Metropolitan Magistrate for Exclusive Trial of CCB & CBCID Cases, Chennai and (ii) C.C.No.6942 of 2022 on the file of the learned 14th Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore Unit, Chennai.

3. The petitioner is permitted to move the Trial Court for the relief now sought. As and when any such petition is filed, it shall be allowed. However, the validity period shall be restricted to three years. It is also open to the Trial Court to stipulate appropriate conditions. Based on the order to be passed by the Trial Court, the first respondent shall reissue the passport to the petitioner.

4. The writ petition is disposed of with the aforesaid directions. No costs.
