IN THE HIGH COURT OF JUDICATURE AT MADRAS
DATED: 06-05-2026
CORAM
THE HON'BLE MRS.JUSTICE L.VICTORIA GOWRI WP.Crl. No. 1119 of 2026 Jasmine Praveen ..Petitioner Vs The Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, Dr.Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore, Chennai - 600 004.
..Respondent PRAYER: Writ Petition (Criminal) is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondent to continue and extend police protection to the petitioner and her family members. For Petitioner:
Ms.A.S.Neela Narayani For Respondent:
Mr.A.Damodaran Additional Public Prosecutor
ORDER
This Writ Petition (Criminal) is filed seeking a direction to the respondent to continue and extend police protection to the petitioner and her family members.
2. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submits that the
petitioner's husband is a Senior Advocate and State Public Prosecutor. He has previously served as Additional Public Prosecutor, representing the State in several highly sensitive criminal matters, including cases involving terrorism and issues of grave public importance. He further submits that considering the nature of the cases handled by the petitioner's husband, there is a persistent threat to his life and the safety of his family members. Consequently, police protection has been granted periodically. However, the petitioner now anticipates that this police protection is likely to be withdrawn soon. In this regard, a representation was submitted to the respondent on 04.05.2026, however the same has not been considered so far and therefore the present petition is filed.
3. Taking into account the facts and circumstances and the nature of representation made by the petitioner, this Court hereby directs the respondent to continue providing police protection to the petitioner's husband and her family members, without default, as provided earlier.
4. With the above direction, this Writ Petition (Criminal) is Allowed. No costs.
