Prayer : Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a Writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to consider the petitioner representation dated 30.09.2020 and consequently direct the respondents to restore the Electricity Connection (Consumer No.01127013236) for the petitioner's house situated at No.28, Karaikuttai Bharathi Nagar, Chennai 600 028 and to pass such further or other orders.

This writ petition has been filed for the issue of writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to consider the representation made by the petitioner on 30.09.2020, wherein the petitioner is seeking for restoration of electricity service connection with respect to the subject property. 2.
The case of the petitioner is that the property was alloted in favour of her father-in-law by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board in the year 2007. The electricity connection also stood in his name. The further case of the petitioner is
that she and her husband were residing in this property and her husband died on 15.03.2008. It is stated that the Father in law of the petitioner also died on 12.07.2018. Thereafter, the petitioner claims that she is living with her daughter in the subject property.

According to the petitioner, the service connection stood in the name of her father-in-law and all of a sudden, it was disconnected by the respondents during August 2018. The petitioner thereafter made a representation to the respondents to restore the electricity connection. Since the same was not considered, the present writ petition has been filed before this Court.

Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and Mr.P.Dhilip Kumar, learned Standing Counsel for respondent. 5.
The petitioner is not seeking for any fresh electricity connection. According to the petitioner, the electricity connection stood in the name of her father-in-law and after his demise, she is living in the property along with her daughter. The petitioner therefore wants the same electricity connection to continue in her name. In the meantime, the respondents have disconnected the electricity service connection.

In view of the above, there shall be a direction to the 2nd respondent to consider the representation made by the petitioner on 30.09.2020 and restore the service connection in the subject property, subject to all the dues being paid by the petitioner. The 2nd respondent shall thereafter consider the representation made by the petitioner on 30.09.2020 and take a decision with regard to transferring the service connection in the name of the petitioner, within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
