This writ petition has been filed for direction directing the respondents to give due promotion with consequential benefits to the promoted post.

The petitioner was appointed as Police Constable grade II on 11.10.1995 in the Police department. For the past 27 years, he was not granted any promotion and the salary also given to him as Grade -I Police Constable. Though, the petitioner made several representation before the higher officials, the same were not considered. Hence, the petitioner filed the present Writ Petition with the above prayer. 3.
Heard the learned counsel appearing on either side and perused the materials placed before this Court. 4.
While pending the Writ Petition, by an order dated 21.07.2025, the petitioner's post was upgraded as Police Constable Grade I with effect from 01.11.2005 and as Head Constable with effect from 01.11.2010 and as Sub Inspector of Police with effect from 01.11.2020.
Further ordered that the pay fixation order will be issued separately and his pay salary will be fixed and the arrears will also be disbursed. 5.
Today the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents produced a copy of the treasury bill indicating that the arrears of salary to the tune of Rs.24,70,503/- was paid to the petitioner. 6.
The learned Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner was not granted any selection grade and special grade in the post of the Police Constable as well as the Head Constable. Therefore, he may be paid compensation for the delay since he served as junior all along his service.

Considering the above submissions, the petitioner is entitled for interest at the rate of 6% per annum for his arrears of salary. The fourth respondent is directed to pay interest at the rate of 6% per annum
for the arrears of the salary for the petitioner's respective post for the respective period, within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

With the above directions, the Writ Petition stands disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
