ORDER
The learned Advocate General appearing for the respondents would submit that this Court, by its order dated 01.04.2026, had directed the respondents to deposit the admitted amount, as per the earlier order of this Court dated 24.02.2026, on or before 15.04.2026. However, the said direction has not been complied with.
2. The learned Advocate General, on instructions, would further submit that the admitted amount is required to be paid to the petitioner either by the Water Resources Department or by the Chennai River Restoration Trust. However, a dispute has arisen as to which authority is liable to make such payment. He would further submit that the issue will now be placed before the Chief Secretary to the Government, who shall conduct an enquiry and issue appropriate directions to either the Chennai River Restoration Trust or the
Water Resources Department to pay the admitted amount to the petitioner. A decision in this regard shall be taken on or before 28.04.2026. 3.In view of the submission made by the learned Advocate General, the Chief Secretary to Government, Secretariat, Fort St. George, Chennai-600 009, is suo motu impleaded as third respondent in this writ petition. The impleaded third respondent is directed to hear the respondents 1 and 2 and ensure payment of the admitted amount to the petitioner on or before 28.04.2026. 4.The appearance of the 1st and 2nd respondents is dispensed with at present.
5.Registry is directed to list the matter under the caption for reporting compliance on 28.04.2026.
