Counsel for Government of Tamilnadu (Crl.Side) Order This Writ Petition has been filed seeking a direction to Respondents to provide adequate police protection to the Petitioner Company, its employees, vehicles and officials, so as to enable the petitioner company to peacefully possess, access, commence and carry on lawful quarrying operations in the land comprised in S.F.No. 490/2 of Sokkanur Village, Kinathukadavu Taluk,
2. Heard the learned Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioner and the learned Government Advocate (Crl.Side) appearing for the respondents and perused the entire documents placed on record.
3. The petitioner-company is the absolute owner of the land measuring an extent of 1.71.50 hectares situated in S.F.No.490/2 of Sokkanur Village, Kinathukadavu Taluk, Coimbatore District. Further, the petitioner-company proposed to undertake quarrying operations for multi-colour granite in the said land and accordingly obtained proceedings from the Government communicating the grant of precise area in favour of the petitioner-Company for a period of 20 years under Rule 19-A of the Tamilnadu Minor Mineral
Concession Rules, 1959. Thereafter, the mining plan submitted by the petitioner-Company was also approved by the Director of Geology and Mining by way of a proceedings dated 07.04.2026. Further, the petitioner has also applied for environmental clearance before the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority and the same is pending. 4.It is to be noted that after completion of all the statutory requirements and regulating the formalities, the petitioner-company can very well commence their quarrying operations in the subject land, however, some persons / third parties are obstructing the pre-mining activities for the purpose of extorting huge money. It is made clear that no one can prevent the petitioner from carrying out the quarry operation after grant of license by the appropriate authorities under the threat of extortion.

In view of the above, the 2nd respondent is directed to provide adequate police protection to the petitioner and his labourers / employees to carry on their quarrying business in the land comprised in S.F.No. 490/2 of Sokkanur Village, Kinathukadavu Taluk, Coimbatore District forthwith. Accordingly, the present petition is disposed of. No costs.
