This writ petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to pay the interest to the petitioner at the rate of 8% per annum for the belated payment of retirement benefits for the period of 31.01.2025 to 11.03.2026 i.e., 405 days on retirement benefits within a specified time.

This writ petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to pay the interest to the petitioner at the rate of 8% per annum for the belated payment of retirement benefits for the period of 31.01.2025 to 11.03.2026 i.e., 405 days on
retirement benefits within a specified time.
W.P.No.21180 of 2026:
This writ petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to pay the interest to the petitioner at the rate of 8% per annum for the belated payment of retirement benefits for the period of 31.05.2025 to 11.03.2026 i.e., 285 days on retirement benefits within a specified time.

Ms.S.Pavithra, Standing counsel for R1 COMMON ORDER The writ petitions are filed for the relief set out below: " directing the respondents to pay the interest to the petitioners at the rate of 8% per annum for the belated payment of retirement benefits on Provident Fund, Gratuity, Leave Amount, Commuted Pension and other retirement benefits within a specified time."
2. The brief facts which has culminated in the filing of this writ petitions are set out below:
2.1. It is the case of the petitioners that at the time of retirement, they were working as "Senior Superintendent, Special Grade Driver, Assistant Manager and Senior Conductor" respectively in the Respondent Corporation
and retired from service on attaining superannuation. The respondents settled their provident Fund, Gratuity, Leave Amount, Commuted Pension and other retirement benefits with delay. Therefore, the respondents are legally bound to pay interest to the petitioners. Therefore, the petitioners have made their representations to the respondents to pay the interest at the rate of 8% p.a., for the belated payment of the petitioners' provident Fund, Gratuity, Leave Amount, Commuted Pension and other retirement benefits. Since there is no response, the petitioners are before this Court.
3. Heard the learned Counsel on either side and perused the materials available on records.
4. Admittedly, the provident Fund, Gratuity, Leave Amount, Commuted Pension and other retirement benefits has been paid belatedly for no fault of the petitioners. Therefore, the petitioners are entitled to interest on the same. (a) The Writ petition in W.P.No.21175 of 2026 is disposed of with a direction to the respondents to disburse the 6% interest for belated payment of retirement benefits for the period from 31.03.2019 till 19.09.2019 i.e., 173 days within a period of one (1) month from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
(b) The Writ petition in W.P.No.21177 of 2026 is disposed of with a direction to the respondents to disburse the 6% interest for belated payment of retirement benefits for the period from 31.01.2025 to 11.03.2026 i.e., 405 days within a period of one (1) month from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. (c) The Writ petition in W.P.No.21178 of 2026 is disposed of with a direction to the respondents to disburse the 6% interest for belated payment of retirement benefits for the period from 31.01.2025 to 11.03.2026 i.e., 405 days within a period of one (1) month from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. (d) The Writ petition in W.P.No.21180 of 2026 is disposed of with a direction to the respondents to disburse the 6% interest for belated payment of retirement benefits for the period from 31.05.2025 to 11.03.2026 i.e., 285 days within a period of one (1) month from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. No costs.
