O R D E R

This petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondents herein to provide police protection to the petitioner herein and her husband.

2. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the respondents.

3. It is seen that, Rithanyaa, aged about 19 years, was in love with one Suresh, who is said to belong to another caste, on account of which, Rithanyaa's parents were opposed to the marriage. Therefore, Rithanyaa has left her parents and is said to have got married to Suresh on 04.07.2016. Since Rithanyaa apprehends that her parents would set up hirelings against her https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

and Suresh, she has filed this petition seeking police protection for herself and Suresh.

4. In Latha Singh Vs.State of Uttar Pradesh and another [(2006) 5 SCC 475] Supreme Court has held that the instrumentalities of the State should encourage intercaste marriage.

5. In view of the above, Rithanyaa and Suresh are directed to appear before the Superintendent of Police, Salem and give a written representation and on their representation, the Superintendent of Police shall enquire into and ensure that no harm befalls them.
