ORDER

This Criminal Original Petition has been filed for a direction to the respondent police to conduct the investigation and file a final report within a time stipulated by this Court.

2.The case of the petitioner is that the accused persons who were involved in chit business cheated hundreds of subscribers to the tune of nearly Rs.1.50 Crores. The learned counsel further submitted that there are totally four accused persons in this case and only A3 was granted anticipatory bail by this Court. It was further submitted that A2 had also filed an anticipatory bail petition before this Court and some offer was made for settlement which was not subsequently honoured and ultimately the petition came to be dismissed. The learned counsel therefore submitted that the respondent police will have to take effective steps to attach the properties of the accused persons and secure them to ensure that the innocent subscribers get back the amount deposited by them in the chit.

3. The learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing on behalf respondent Police submitted that the respondent Police are taking effective steps to secure the accused persons and also identify the properties of the accused

persons to ensure that the amount is secured and the innocent depositor are paid back. The learned Additional Public Prosecutor further submitted that the investigation will be carried on effectively and it will be completed within a period of four months.

4.Taking into consideration the facts and circumstances of the case and also of the fact that the case involves the interest of several hundreds of subscribers who have deposited their hard earned money in the chit business that was conducted by the accused persons, there shall be a direction to the respondent police to take all steps to complete the investigation and file final report in this case within a period of four months from the date of receipt of copy of this order. It goes without saying that whatever steps are necessary to safeguard the interest of the innocent depositors, the same shall be taken by the respondent police.
